Oxford Puts Grant to Good Use
July 23rd, 2007 10:21 PM

Oxford Borough received an $800,000 grant from the Department of Community Development. The grant will be used for water line improvements along Third Street and Locust Street in the borough. The water line project is a key part of the borough's plans to improve streetscapes and generate more business in the future.

Oxford Sewer Plan Approved

The Oxford Area Sewer Authority (OASA) has delivered resolutions to townships involved in their Regional Act 537 (Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities) plan. Approval of the resolutions is the final step before the OASA can send the plan to the PA Department of Environmental Protection. The plan will set sewer-capacity limits for Oxford Borough, Lower Oxford Township and East Nottingham Township.

Penn Township Ready to Sell Sewage Plant

The Penn Township Board of Supervisors announced they are looking to sell the township's sewage plant within the next two years. Supervisors said that the rapid development of the area has led to a shortage in sewage capacity, and that they are wary of spending taxpayer money on an expansion.

Lower Oxford Open Space Bond

Lower Oxford secures $1 million open space bond

The Lower Oxford Township Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance that enters the township into a $1 million open space bond agreement with the Delaware Valley Regional Financial Authority. The bond will be used to preserve farmland in the township.

Preservation in Chester County

Governor grants authorization for preservation in Chester County

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell signed a bill authorizing Chester County to sell 500 acres near Embreeville to the Natural Lands Trust. The trust will combine that land with 568 acres of donated land to create a 1,000-acre preserve.

Herr Foods Inc. has been a permanent and productive fixture in the Nottingham Community since 1952.  They currently employ about 1,100 people dedicated to the production and marketing of over 375 varieties of snacks.  State Representative, Art Hershey, presented Herr's Company with a $5 million check of State Funding that the Herrs have acquired for the expansion.

Southern Chester County Growth

At a Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce luncheon, PA Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi weighed in on the impact of growth within the area.  Within Penn, east Nottingham, New garden and New London, the populations have doubled in the last 15 years.  penn Township stands as one of the fastest growing townships in the state.  Senator Pileggi cited the growth in school district enrollment and changing demographics within the area as consequences of the population boom.  Legislative actions, such as a proposal to permit impact fees, were discussed during the forum.

Oxford Area Sewer Authority to follow Act 537

The Oxford Area Sewer Authority announced their commitment to following strict guidelines contained in Pennsylvania's Act 537. The Pennsylvania Sewage Facilities Act (Act 537) requires that all Commonwealth municipalities develop and implement comprehensive official plans that provide for the resolution of existing sewage disposal problems, provide for the future sewage disposal needs of new land development and provide for the future sewage disposal needs of the municipality.
